How to protect a Fish/How to Protect your drinking water

Bill Byrne, MDFW

Fish need healthy streams to survive and thrive. In the case of the Assabet and its tributaries, that means flowing, clean water. Unfortunately, poor water quality and inadequate flow in the Assabet and its tributaries is damaging fish habitat in our watershed, resulting in smaller populations of fluvial (river) fish such as brook trout and fallfish and larger populations of "lake" species such as carp and large-mouth bass. The following pages have information about how you, through thoughtful land and water use, can help improve fish habitat in the Assabet watershed. These same actions will also help protect your drinking water -- which also depends on clean water in good supply in the watershed.
