Assabet River Cleanup - SATURDAY SEPT. 11, 2010

The 24th Annual Assabet River Cleanup will take place on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Click here to learn about volunteering.

Over the past twenty-three years, OAR volunteers have hauled tons and tons of trash – a small mountain of it – out of the Assabet, to help clean up our local river.

Our cleanup has grown since its inception in 1986; our last cleanup day attracted over 175 volunteers in seven towns. Each September, in what has become a regional tradition, individuals and teams from local businesses, civic associations, scout troops, and high schools spend a Saturday morning cleaning up the Assabet throughout the watershed. The cleanup is followed by a pizza lunch, courtesy of local pizza parlors. One of our most popular programs, the Annual Cleanup is also deeply satisfying for the participants – a team of people at one site working for three hours can make a real, visible difference for the river and their community.
